Thank you Brian whose home sale has helped provide emergency and transitional housing for homeless families and support for our marginalized neighbors in Whatcom County through the work of Family Promise. Because of friends like you who have chosen 2roofs as their Realtor over 200 people in need have been helped to find housing.
2ROOFS is Whatcom County's own social real estate team. We believe you should have a joy filled and meaningful real estate experience. Every sale helps house a person in need at no additional cost to you. See how it works HERE.
Here’s the personal “Thank You” letter from Family Promise Team.
Brian,
On behalf of all of us at Interfaith Coalition and especially Family Promise of Whatcom County, thank you for donating $500 to Family Promise through 2Roofs. In the little more than two years that this program formed in Whatcom, we have temporarily housed and provided extensive case management to dozens of families experiencing homelessness, most of whom have found the footing to get into stable housing of their own. Below is a story from one such family who will soon be moving into their own apartment. Your donation helped cover expenses and transfer fees from a donated car that will help this mother get her college degree, keep her job, and do the day-to-day errands that come with being a mother and an independent adult. Thank you for providing this opportunity for this family.

Here’s the story of Sarah, a Mother helped through Family Promise.
My name is Sarah, and I’m 27-years-old and I have an amazing 10-years-old daughter. We got accepted into Family Promise of Whatcom County on June 8, 2020 after being homeless for about two years.
At 15, I got pregnant and got kicked out of the house. I never thought or tried to get my license since I started driving without one in the past. But then one day my case manager at Family Promise let me know during one of our one on one meetings that they had received a car donation, but to receive the car I needed to have my license.
I had to do all the things to be able to get my license, which was kind of hard. I failed the first time. Then I took it again and passed the written test, but not the driving test. I had to take the driving test again and I finally passed it.
On top of all that I had to pay my collections because I had previously gotten tickets for driving without a license. I paid those when the first of the month rolled around and I had the money to pay them.
Another obstacle I had to overcome was getting an appointment at the DMV. That was a little tricky because with Covid-19 you have to make an appointment. It’s hard to get an appointment and when I did they were so far out, so that took a little longer than expected. But now I’ll have a car and my license and on December 1 we finally get to move into our own apartment.
Thanks to Family Promise and everyone, such as volunteers or anyone that is involved with Family Promise, they guided us and helped motivate us and pushed us to do all the necessary things to find our housing and to help me get my license.
Having a vehicle helps with so many different things like finding housing and a job. I do have a job now, but I didn’t have reliable transportation to get all the way out to where it’s at. The buses don’t run as often as my shifts. I want to be able to finish my college degree, but not having transportation definitely makes it hard to juggle work, school, and being a single parent. I’m really thankful for the opportunity and all the help that I’ve gotten so far and all the blessings that have come our way.
It’s weird because 2020 has been kind of a hard year for almost everybody, including us, but it’s also been probably the best for us in the sense that we finally got into a program, got all the guidance that we needed, and finally are able to have a home and get a vehicle. There’s so much more that I wanna be able to accomplish and get done and now I have one less barrier or worry or obstacle to get in the way of me accomplishing all that now. And I can’t wait to see what more the future has for me and my daughter, especially now that I am able to not stress about where we are going to sleep every night or what we’re going to eat or how we’re going to get to any appointments or to anywhere.
And it’s all thanks to Family Promise and all the organizations and partners and churches that work together to be able to make it possible and give families hope. I don’t know if we would’ve been able to make it or what we would’ve done if this program wasn’t available to us.
